Overview

Living on the Edge investigates the architectural potential of threshold conditions in Charlottesville, Virginia—those liminal zones where the built environment meets the natural landscape. The project identifies a series of edge sites along the city's topographic ridgelines and stream corridors where conventional development patterns have left residual spaces. Rather than treating these edges as leftover land, the design proposes a network of small-scale interventions that activate the boundary between urban and rural, creating new forms of dwelling that are deeply responsive to slope, hydrology, and the existing tree canopy.
