Another 34,000 A Day offers an effective, credible, and feasible solution to the devastating refugee-housing crisis. This project reimagines a group of displaced people into the rhythm of an existing community through a comprehensive three-stage resettlement plan implemented in Portland, Maine. Stage 1 (Shelter) deploys a rapidly-assembled emergency housing unit inspired by the Hoberman Sphere. Stage 2 (Community) establishes semi-permanent neighborhoods based on UNHCR sub-block planning at Camp Chewonki. Stage 3 (City) proposes the Portland Cultural Center as a permanent civic landmark integrating the refugee community into the urban fabric.
