Living on the Edge

Instructor: Ryan Carbone / University of Virginia / 2016
Charlottesville, VA

Overview

The Preston Avenue area is currently a hidden traffic corridor that lacks a true sense of community. This project proposes a new housing typology built above Preston Avenue's median, providing access to a new public linear park while experimenting with a more exciting set of living arrangements. The design includes two primary unit types — the Family Unit and the Student Unit — organized along a shared promenade that activates the street edge.
